The Pirates lost a well fought match Thrusday night to #1 ranked Merritt Island at home 0-4. The loss makes the Pirates record 7-7-1 heading into the holiday break. Palm Bay's initial go ahead goal (Tom Fowler's header) in the 10th minute was called back due to a foul. The Pirates managed to hold off the powerful Mustang attack for most of the first half, behind the effort of Senior goalkeeper Rob Loyst who withstood a barrage of shots, making several incredible saves which totaled a career high 15 total on the night. The Mustangs took the momentum from their 1-0 lead at the half into the second half, and eventually came out victorious and improved their record to 13-0. Both Senior strikers Eric Lynch and Calixto Lopez were held in check, keeping them tied for the county lead in scoring with 18 goals each. Palm Bay is off for the holidays but will return to action in 2008, when they host arch rival Bayside on Tuesday, January 8th.
