1/25/08:

The Pirates fell in district play on Tuesday evening to Gateway 2-1, ending their season and handing the Pirates their first and only loss of 2008. The Panthers scores first early in the match. Palm Bay then struck back mid way through the half as Sophomore Johann Braithwaite found Senior David Smart for his 3rd goal of the season. The score remained even throughout the match until Gateway managed the game's final goal with less than 2 minutes to play. The Pirates look to continue the momentum of what was a record breaking season into the offseason in prepartion for the 2008 - '09 season.

1/22/08:

The Pirates closed out the regular season on Friday night as they earned their 5th consecutive victory, beating Space Coast by a score of 3-2. Palm Bay jumped out to an early lead when Senior Mark Astwood scored his first goal of the season. The Vipers struck back with 2 goals to take a 2-1 lead heading into the last 20 minutes of the match. Palm Bay evened the score with 10 minutes left on Tom Fowler's PK, then scored what proved to be the deciding goal with less than 2 minutes left when Freshman Joao Vicente battled through defenders and the goalkeeper to record his 4th goal in the last 5 games. The victory closes out an impressive regular season for the Pirates, who ended up with a record of 12-7-1. The JV Pirates also closed out a quality season, ending up with a record of 8-5-4.

1/18/08:

Palm Bay fought and earned yet another well deserved victory in an intense match vs. the Holy Trinity Tigers Thursday night by a score of 2-1. After a scoreless first half, the Pirates took a 2-0 lead off the feet of Calixto Lopez (2 goals), who extended his county lead to 23 goals on the season. The victory extends Palm Bay's winning streak to 4 games, and improves their record to 11-7-1 on the season. The Pirates travel to Space Coast tonight to make the much improved Vipers in the final game of the regular season.

It's a boy! Congratulations are in order for second year Assistant Coach Alex Lopez. At 6:58 p.m. on Wednesday, January 16th at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Alex and his wife Amy became proud new parents of Marcus Alexander Lopez. Marcus was born weighing an even 7 pounds. The coaches, players, parents, and supporters of the Palm Bay High soccer program wish you the best of luck with this new chapter in your life. Congratulations coach!!!

1/16/08:

The boys extended their winning streak to 3 games on Tuesday night as they knocked off Westshore by a score of 5-2. Westshore got on the board first, but the Pirates came roaring back with 5 consecutive goals to seal their 10th win of the season. Senior Calixto Lopez added 2 more goals to his season total (21 goals). Junior Tom Fowler, and Freshmen Edgar Roque and Joao Vicente also added goals. Palm Bay improved their season record to 10-7-1 with the victory. The Pirates return to action on Thursday as they travel to face Holy Trinity. The Palm Bay Boys' Soccer team has re-entered the polls as #5 in Florida Today's top soccer teams in Brevard County. Check the article out here "Florida Today's Top 5". The district tournament schedule has also been released. The Pirates play Gateway in the first round on Tuesday, 1/22, 5 p.m. at Melbourne High School. 1/14/08:

The Pirates remained undefeated in 2008 as they handled Astronaut by a score of 3-0 on Friday night. Palm Bay dominated posession and controlled the pace of play the entire match, thus raising their season record to 9-7-1. Freshman striker tandem Edgar Roque and Joao Vicente each connected on first half goals, which were eventually follwed up by Junior Tom Fowler's 7th goal of the season. Seniors Calixto Lopez, Mark Astwood, and David Smart all had assists as well. Senior keeper Rob Loyst (6 saves) also recorded his 4th shutout of the season. The boys return to the pitch on Tuesday as the take to the road again to face the Westshore Wildcats.

1/9/08:

Palm Bay started the new year with a convincing 3-1 victory over arch rival Bayside on Tuesday night. The win raises the Pirates' record to 8-7-1 for the season. The scoring started within the first 5 minutes of the match when David Smart was fouled by the Bayside goalkeeper, leading to a goal by Tom Fowler on a penalty kick. Palm Bay scored again shortly thereafter as Fowler found striker Calixto Lopez, who netted his 19th goal of the season. Palm Bay took a 2-0 lead into the half, and finished their scoring when Lopez connected with Freshman Joao Vicente, who flicked the ball past the keeper for his 1st goal of the season. The defense played extremely well with the leadership of defender Austin Jordan and goalkeeper Rob Loyst. The boys return to action on Friday as they host the Astronaut War Eagles on senior night.

1/7/08:

The Pirates take back to the pitch tomorrow night as they face arch rival Bayside. Last year's match resulted in a tie (2-2). Palm Bay (currently 7-7-1) are gearing toward a strong performance in this month's district tournament, as well as aiming for their first winning season in several years.
